PGA Golf Professional

Welcome to Lewis Bird Golf - this is my website that will enable you to find out all the necessary information about myself, how I can improve your golf, along with my professional tournament results and fixtures.

I am a PGA Assistant Professional based at Calcot Park Golf Club, Reading. This is where I spend the majority of my coaching and practice time. Currently I am in my first year of the PGA training, however I will be moving on to my second year in September.

I have been fortunate enough to have been given a number of fantastic opportunities throughout my golfing career, working with some very knowledgeable coaches while travelling the world playing and working in the industry. I have gained a huge amount of knowledge about the sport and mechanics of the swing during my time as an amateur and since turning professional. This is what I believe has helped me to achieve good grades across the board in my first year of the PGA training programme.

I do not have a specific method of teaching, and believe that due to the fact that every athlete/player has different characteristics, it is very difficult and would not work to teach one method. Catering for every individuals needs is a priority of mine and I pride myself in ensuring the customer is taught in an enjoyable environment, where they are able to take in all the information I give them.

In the Bag

I made the change over to Srixon/Cleveland/Nike golf equipment in July 2015, it has revolutionised my game, now I am sure that the equipment I use is best suited to me, boosting my confidence and decreasing scores. The clubs I use are arguably some of the best on the market, they offer forgiveness, combined with long distance and a fantastic feel.

I carry a Driver, 3 Wood and 2 Hybrid, this ensures I have a wide variety of distances that I can hit at the top end of my bag. I have a combo set of the Srixon Z945 and Z745 irons, this is because the Z745 are slightly more forgiving which was what I needed in the longer irons. I then have 2 wedges, 52 & 58 degree, and I feel this allows me to play all the shots required and keep my yardage gaps consistent throughout the bag. I use the Odyssey #1 Wide Putter which I find has a great roll and easy to stroke back and through.
